Having a masters in English isn’t necessary either, I promise. I don’t have one – and I make really good money for my writing work. Granted, I do have a 4-year degree — but English was not my major. It’s true I like to write, but I struggle when it comes to writing about something I am not interested in. This is a hurdle I’ve had to train myself to clear. Side note: sometimes a topic comes along and it’s something I’d not thought about or really researched and I am fascinated by the time I am done completing the article or post. So that’s an added bonus to taking writing assignments you feel would be boring or that you feel you’re simply not suited for. You might just discover your next favorite hobby, author, celebrity taking on assignments you felt were unappealing.
Do I Need to Apply at iWriter?
No. You do not. The sign up is so easy and it’s free. You’ll simply click on the button that says “Write Content” on the iWriter homepage.
You’ll fill out the necessary information plus choose a username and password. Once you’ve verified your account you can log in and see what types of writing assignments and projects are currently being offered for writers by selecting the “Write Content” tab at the top of the page.
Choosing a Writing Assignment
Now you’ll see where the magic happens! This is where your opportunities to make some money are posted. Yo, in all honesty, is a huge variety of assignments. They will vary on payment rate too – but you’ll see there are lots of projects that can add up. And most articles, in all honesty, are maybe an hour job — there might be some that pay higher and require a lot of research that could run you into a 3-hour mark – but I’ve never done an assignment that took me half a day or all day.
I take assignments on what I think it will take me in time. If you feel you’re a $10 an hour writer and an article will take you an hour – then you have a target mark of what you’ll take and what you won’t.
Payment and Fees
Writers do not make the full profit from their articles – but here is why. A percentage is deducted to cover PayPal fees and Copyscape fees. PayPal is like a bank – so there will always be fees. But they are minimal. Copyscape is used to make sure that whatever work writers have submitted – isn’t copied. It is imperative that work is NOT copied. Unique content is what these employers want – anything less is worthless. And you aren’t really a writer if you’re just copying and pasting something. Common sense.
In the end, you make 75% of the rate being paid. (Direct writing requests earn 80%.) Considering how many assignments you can pick up and how much work potential there is if you build a good reputation – you can see where a steady stream of income is there for the ambitious writer. I personally make around $125 a month with iWriter – this is only because I am writing my own content too and I can’t commit a lot of time to freelance work. If I had no other work – I could see where I would pick up even more assignments and make more money. It’s all about having the time to do the assignments.
What if What I Write Sucks?
First of all – you won’t know if you don’t try. Second, the article requester has three days to approve your article. Once approved funds are immediately put into your account. If after 3 days nothing happens – it was rejected. This happens. Don’t let it stop you or slow you down. Keep honing your writing skills. Why? Because the payoff could mean you earn the status of Elite writer. These writers earn $15 or more per article. That’s some nice cash for writing. You can also earn gold stars – meaning the article requester prefers YOUR work.
In the end, iWriter is just one place for earning online for freelance writers. But I feel it’s an excellent place to get your feet wet. It will probably never compete with a full-time income – and there are no benefits, but if you’re looking for a way to bring in enough income to keep things afloat in your world – and around $100 a month can do that – this might just be the ticket for you.
Plus… it’s kinda cool when you’re out for coffee with friends and someone asks, “What do you do for a living?”.
OH…. me? I’m a writer.
Instant coolness points! If you’d like to register for iWriter, go here. It’s a pretty easy process.
