Demand Media Jobs [Work at Home Writer and Editor Positions]

Should You Become a Demand Media Content Editor?

Demand Media is a content mill that has long been a popular choice amongst the work at home crowd. They have a variety of work at home opportunities available, including positions for editors.

What the Company Does

Demand Media owns several different websites which they provide content for. After an article has been written by one of their experiences content writers, the project goes to the editors. Since the company does an excellent job of selecting talented and conscientious writers the amount of editing required will be minimal.

What you’ll Enjoy about Working for Demand Media

There are some great benefits associated with doing editing work for Demand Media. The first benefit is that you’ll be able to set your own schedule. As of right now, the company doesn’t insist that you provide them with a set number of hours your willing to work each day or week. If you want to work, great. If you want to take a week or two off, that’s not a problem either! You’re free to work first thing in the morning, or in the middle of the night, whatever works best for your personal schedule. (See my post,

The other great thing about Demand Media is that it really is completely home based job. You can work while wearing your pajamas.
Unlike some companies that only seem to work in one field, the articles you edit for Demand Media will vary. During the average week, you could easily edit twenty or thirty different topics.

How the Payment Program Works

One of Demand Media’s best features is their payment program. I think more people would work for content mills if more content mills followed the payment aspect of Demand Media’s business plan. As soon as you complete editing an article and your work has been approved, the amount will be added to your account. Twice a week, the payments will be released. Money gets deposited into your PayPal account.

Ability to Move up the Ladder

When Demand Media hires you, your position will be that of a content editor, but if you work hard and consistently submit top quality work, you will be promoted up the ladder.

Final Thoughts

There was a time when I wouldn’t have hesitated that you turn in an application to be a content editor for Demand Media. The company used to be a really good source of income. However, things have changed. The company does still pay regularly, but over the past few years, the amount both editors and writers get paid per assignment has steadily decreased. The days when there was always work available have also disappeared, now it’s possible to go several days without finding any work on the website. The company also has a disturbing habit of occasionally cutting writers and editors from their pool of contractors without the slightest warning.

While I think it’s worth filling out an application to become a Demand Media content editor, I don’t think you should ever make it your main source of income.

*This company has been rebranded as Leaf Group – They own sites like eHow and Cuteness, therefore they still need writers and editors. You'll want to go to those individual sites though in order to apply as writers and/or editors. For eHow, you can go here, and there is a Submit Your Work button if you scroll down. As far as Cuteness, they are not typically hiring, but you can check here.

  1. Thanks for the information you’ve provided in your article. However, I found a grammatical error: You’ve stated, “you’re position” in the article but, it should be “your” – under the header “Ability to Move up the Ladder”. I thought you would want to know so that you could correct/update your article on the website. As I’m searching for editing and proofreading work, please let me know if there’s anything available at your company. jhc
