Get Transcribed – Employment Details

Get Transcribed is a fairly new company. It was created in 2012 and has quickly become quite popular on work at home blogs and forums. At this moment they deal exclusively in transcription work but I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t soon add copywriting to the list of services they provide. Even though the company is based in Ohio, they’re willing to work with transcribers who hail from Canada, the United States, Australia, and Europe, though a strong grasp of English language will be expected.

Pros

Anyone, no matter how experienced, is invited to apply to work for Get Transcribed. You will have to take a test and score an 85%. After you have taken the test, you will be expected to maintain a steady 98% accuracy rating in order to continue to accept transcription work. (More job options? Doing transcription work for Get Transcribed isn’t going to make you rich. The company’s payment plan is on the low side. Most of their transcriptionists report making $0.23 per minute for audio files, but that’s still higher than some of the other sites I’ve checked out. Plus if you qualify to work as a quality check worker you can get paid $0.12 for every single minute of audio file that you review. The money adds up quickly.

The company does have a great deal of work available and most of the files are fairly short and are very clear and can be translated quite quickly.

Cons

I don’t like the fact that Get Transcribed only makes a payment once a month, and then only if you’ve earned a $100. Payments are deposited directly into your Paypal account.

Even though Get Transcribed is a legit source of income, it’s not one of my personal favorites, mostly because of the fact that they only pay once a month and have such a high payment threshold. While there might be other opportunities with higher rates, it could be a great way to get some experience to help you work your way up to more lucrative transcription opportunities.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with GetTranscribed. I am so sorry you have not been paid for work you’ve done! That’s awful. And to me $200 is A LOT of money. I hope they get it figured out and pay people what they are due. Otherwise negative word of mouth will spread like wild fire. No business wants that.

  2. Hi everyone,

Yes, I worked for GetTranscribed and I’m afraid I cannot recommend this company. I started working for them about 2 years ago. It all started off good and got paid when I reached my first 435 audio minutes I got paid $100 through PayPal – no problems (that’s what 23 cents per audio minute equates to). The next two payments were also good. Then it started to go downhill.

I reached my target and was due to be paid, to be told by the owner Matthew that he hadn’t quite reached his target for the month and would not be paying his transcribers until the following month. That continued on for a period of time and I continued to work for him, but to no avail. When I queried if other transcribers were getting paid he said no, that I was next in the queue to be paid and he would pay me when he could afford to – this was a year on! So none of his transcribers had been paid in a year.

In the meantime he asked me if I would be “part of his elite team of about 3 transcriptionists, he wanted to put together” that he was taking on a contract from a client which was quite lucrative and all the problems would be sorted, and if I would stick with him. Rates were going to be raised etc. No such thing!

I have emailed him on numerous occasions regarding payment and he will not reply. I am now down $200 for transcriptions completed for GetTranscribed. I am an experienced transcriber and doing this line of work for about 15 years now.

I am strongly considering contacting Better Business Bureau to make a complaint about this company.

    Pros:
They are a good company if you are a beginner and wanting to learn transcription and get guided on rules, format etc. Matthew is a good guy to work with. You can take work when it suits you. You will get a notification email when there is work to be done.

    Cons:
Contrary to what their website says GetTranscribed do not pay their transcribers. You cannot get promoted as I have asked this on numerous occasions and there was always an excuse as to why this could not happen – even though I was part of his “elite team”. They are not a professional company.
