What You Need to Know About Language Line
Language Line has several job openings for interpreters. While they don’t list the pay rate on their website, they do explain that it depends on the job, your language skills, and experience. Depending on the job you are assigned to, you might get paid weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. All payments are made by check or direct deposit. In order to work for Language Line, you’ll need a dedicated phone line and cell phones or internet numbers won’t work. The calls you take will vary depending on each project, but they are generally taking travel reservations, answering insurance or banking questions, or translating 911 emergency calls. The hours you work will also vary by project. Some former employees reported working normal business hours, but others said more flexible hours were available because the company takes calls 24/7. No matter what hours you end up working, you’ll be paid to go through training and this is completed over the phone. Training time can take several weeks. While doing research, I found that many interpreter jobs from home require some span of training — so expect that.
