VIPKid Offers Tutoring Jobs That Pay Well!

Teachers Can Work from Home at VIPKid

If you’re a teacher looking for a way to make some extra income at home, VIPKid is offering a fantastic opportunity for you! This company connects American teachers with young Chinese students who are seeking to learn English. Using a video portal and a webcam, you can provide one-on-one ESL tutoring services to kids in China and make up to $18 an hour. Here’s a look at the application process, requirements, and what you can expect if you land a job with VIPKid.

Who Can Apply for ESL Online Tutoring with VIPKid?

VIPKid is pretty flexible in their teaching requirements. As long as you have a bachelor’s degree in a related field and you are a native English speaker, you will meet the basic criteria. They prefer teachers who have experience in teaching children between the ages of five and twelve years old. It’s also preferable if you can devote at least 7-8 hours per week to teaching VIPKid classes.

The application process is quick and easy. You start by filling out an application on the VIPKid website and then you’ll wait to hear back from a recruiter if they are interested in conducting an interview. When I applied for VIPKid, I heard back within just two hours asking me to choose a time and date that would work for my interview. During the interview, you’ll need to answer just basic questions about your work history and complete a short demo class to prove that you have the necessary skills to teach ESL to young children. (See my large list of online tutoring jobs and gigs.)

If everything goes well, you’ll be offered a contract that is typically around six months long. When your contract is over, you will have the option to renew it and renegotiate your earnings. VIPKid provides training for all teachers that they contract and you even get paid for the time it takes to complete the training process.

How Much Does VIPKid Pay Teachers?

For this ESL teaching job, you’ll be paid hourly or per 30-minute teaching session. Bonuses may also be available if you get great reviews or recruit new students. You’ll get paid once a month through direct deposit. Most new teachers start out earning between $14 and $18 per hour.

What’s the Catch?

If this sounds like a dream come true, you’re mostly right. The only downside is the scheduling. Because you’ll be teaching kids in China, you’ll need to be available to tutor sessions during peak hours on Beijing time. This is generally between 5:00 AM and 9:00 AM for tutors. If you don’t mind early morning hours, you’ll have no trouble finding plenty of available work to keep you busy and you can build up a steady income from regular tutoring sessions each day.

Is VIPKid Right for You?

If you’re an experienced teacher looking for a way to work from home or just make some extra money on the side, VIPKid is definitely a fantastic opportunity. As summer break draws closer, the number of teachers applying is likely to increase, so make sure you apply now before the big rush to increase the chances of landing a job as an ESL tutor working from home.
