Taking a Leap of Faith
Little did I know 10 years ago when I was invited to a friend’s house for facials and margaritas that I was going to embark on a journey of personal transformation. I sat in my friend’s dining room that evening listening to her “upline” speak and was totally confused as to why she was encouraging everyone to buy at wholesale (taken my friends profit) and what did a white Mercedes have to do with skin care? I felt like I was listening to the Charlie Brown teacher …”wa wa wa, white Mercedes”. After the presentation, we all got to try some products and I will say that my skin felt so good. I left that night, purchasing a few things (because that’s what friends do) and with the encouragement of my friend, signed up as a consultant (“just for the discount”) with two other friends who chipped in so we could also get the free night cream ($79 value).
That was a Friday evening and for the next couple of nights, I tossed and turned and could not stop thinking about this company called Arbonne. I kept thinking to myself, even though I personally wasn’t in to skin care and makeup, I knew people who were (my mother, my sister…both product junkies) and the woman said the company was Vegan (one of my best friends was Vegan) and she said all I had to do was share this company with other people and the company would pay me and I could ultimately earn a pretty generous income working part time and ultimately earn a white Mercedes. Hmmmm?!?!? It sounded simple enough and a little too good to be true, but I definitely wanted to learn more. So, that Monday I called my friend and to her surprise I told her I wanted to do Arbonne. She invited me to an opportunity meeting that evening and I listened, this time a little more intently as to how this company could change my life. I don’t know why, but I just got it right away. I officially signed up to do the business that evening.
Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone
The next week I launched my business by inviting family & friends to come experience the products. I told them that I didn’t want them to buy anything, I just wanted them to come, try the products and give me some honest feedback and if they liked the products maybe they would be open to helping me share them with some of their family & friends. My launch was a huge success, so much so that I earned back my initial investment to start my business and I also got a few bookings to share Arbonne with more people. I’m really grateful that my friend encouraged me to get started right away because after I did my first presentation it created confidence in me to continue. This was definitely totally outside my comfort zone and as I said I was not a product person, so not only did I have to build my belief that I had what it took to sell, but I also had to build my belief that what I was selling was as good as the company said it was.
Sharing With Others
As the months went by my business continued to grow and I gained more and more confidence in sharing not only the products but the business opportunity. After only a few months I signed on my first business partner. That’s when my whole mindset changed, it was no longer about me, but about helping someone else succeed. When I first started my business it was about the money. My husband and I had struggled financially for years because I decided to leave my career in Fashion to be a stay at home mom for one child and then ultimately three. We had accumulated a considerable amount of debt living on one income and even though I had picked up some part time work in the evenings and also turned a hobby in to a home based business, it was still not enough to create the additional source of income we needed to live. Like the saying goes, there was more month then there was money.
Slowly my team and my client base grew, but something even more valuable started to grow. Arbonne had opened me up to a whole new world of leadership, personal growth, and development that I hadn’t experienced before. I was starting to find myself spending a lot of time surrounded by very successful people. They weren’t just successful financially … these people were dreamers, visionaries, positive, philanthropist, go-getters. They were living healthy lifestyles inside and out. They had all said yes to this vehicle that could not only change their lives, their families’ lives but became passionate about being the change for others.
As I write this today and reflect back on the past 10 years I realize that this vehicle, Arbonne was presented to me so that I could live my life with purpose. It has empowered me to be the servant leader that I am today!
What I love about all direct sales/network marketing companies is, they allow ordinary people to become extraordinary, that’s EXTRA ordinary! It is truly and equal opportunity, opportunity that does not discriminate on gender, age, educational background or financial status. If you have the desire and a strong work ethic you can build an incredible business and asset that can bless you continually, as long as you do not quit.
What I love about Arbonne, in one word is, the Lifestyle! The culture and type of people that Arbonne attracts is like no other. The ability to purchase and share products that are pure, safe and beneficial for both inner health and outer health makes me feel like I am doing something that is meaningful. And to be able to teach and train others how to do what I do helps me to create value in other’s lives too.
When I first started Arbonne I was a stay at home Mom with three young children, struggling to pay bills and put food on the table. Through the years, I’ve educated myself about the industry, I’ve educated myself about leadership. I have read countless books on personal growth and attended many personal growth seminars. I built my business fast and I’ve built my business slow. I’ve embraced all the different reach out methods that are used to share both the products and the business opportunity. I have reached both financial and personal success doing what I do. My greatest joy is helping others succeed too and my mission is to create a Legacy of Leaders with servant’s hearts!
This past year, as two of my children went off to college and I found myself having a lot of free time I decided to get a job to get out of the house a few hours a day. That little part time job turned into a full time career (another long story in itself) and I am now working over 40 hours a week. It has made me value my Arbonne business even more. It has also shown me the obstacles that many people face when trying to build a business while working full time.
