Date with Mommy/Daddy

My mother was a stay-at-home mom, though I’ve never thought that an accurate term since she never stayed at home. She was always running off to someone’s basketball/soccer/wrestling/football/track/baseball game, pick-ups and drop-offs, and just generally running around for my three siblings and me.

On days that were really rough for us kids, my parents would do a Mommy Date or a Daddy Date with whoever was struggling, and that meant the world to us. It was usually a simple date such as a drive to the beach or someplace quiet we could talk. My mom usually had a part-time job she could work around our schedules and my dad a lot but still made it to as many games/meets as he could.

My Dad always says he wishes he’d had more time to see our games and they both wish finances were better to give them that freedom (we had some tough years with finances). That stuck with me to the point that they are part of the reason I began to look for opportunities which would allow me more time and money.
