A Terre Haute native is making her mark on the Web. Kelly Land, formerly Kelly Allenbaugh, operates MoneyMakingMommy.com from her North Carolina home.
The site began in 1999, but since June, the traffic on the site has jumped 112 percent, said Land. The site gets more than 40,000 unique visitors per month. Its companion e-mail newsletter now goes to 6,400 subscribers, up 25 percent in three months.
(UPDATE 2009: Site now gets 140,000 unique visitors, 1.1 million page views and has over 40,000 subscribers)
Land, in addition to raising a family and running the Web site, is writing a book about marketing to moms. Land made her mark on Terre Haute on-air at WMGI and WZZQ/WBOW before she left in 1995. She also was assistant director for the Wabash Valley March of Dimes.
The site is geared toward mothers who, like her, want to raise their children themselves, but whose family budgets don’t allow them to stay at home without working. The site’s mission is to offer women encouragement, home business ideas, industry information and legitimate, scam-free work-at-home and telecommuting jobs — all of which Land researches herself.
Advertising keeps the site and newsletter free for Web-surfing moms — and dads.
