1on1Education is an online tutoring company offering a range of extra-curricular courses to students aged 7 – 18yrs worldwide.

We are seeking trained and experienced high school English teachers who can guide our students based in Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand through the study of literature and writing. As our students have typically grown up speaking English, this is not an ESOL role.

To fit the schedules of our Beijing and Australasian students, we require teachers who can work the peak hours for this role: Weekdays: 2pm – 9pm Beijing time Weekends: 7am – 9pm Beijing time. Additional availability will be viewed favorably.

Our teachers typically work 8-20 hours per week, and priority will be given to those who can work 10+ hours.

The role:

As a tutor with 1on1Education, you will build meaningful relationships as you support your students in their learning journey.

Classes are conducted through Zoom and run for 50 minutes, with class sizes typically ranging from one to three students per class. Teachers are paid for the full hour.

Our reading and writing classes follow a textbook or PowerPoints, with all written student work created in Google Docs. The reading component of the course covers poetry, novel excerpts, short stories, articles, and speeches, allowing students to develop their comprehension, literary analysis, and critical thinking skills while learning about different people and cultures from around the world. The writing component of the class provides the opportunity for students to develop their creative and formal writing skills across a wide range of genres and purposes.

Minimal preparation time is required, as lesson resources are provided. Teachers are encouraged to include additional fun games and activities relevant to the topic where they feel it will benefit the students – we recognize that each teacher has their own style, and we celebrate this!

A bit about you:

• Experienced and enthusiastic teacher of English literature and writing (please note this is not an ESOL role)
• Tech-savvy with excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Available for a minimum of 10 hours per week during our peak hours of Weekdays: 2pm – 9pm Beijing time and Weekends: 7am – 9pm Beijing time.
• Passionate about inspiring students!
• You will need to have a computer, reliable internet, working headphones and video, and a clear and quiet space to work from.
• Priority will be given to tutors who are looking for ongoing work for a minimum of one year.

The 1-2 minute video is for PARENTS. This is how parents select tutors for their children, so your video can directly address the parents and students. You can discuss your love for your subject, what you enjoy about teaching, what skills you can help our students to develop, and what strengths you can offer as a teacher.

We also require a photograph which will be used in your online profile presenting you to parents of prospective students.
