Goodbye 2017 and Hello, 2018!
I'd like to say that last year was amazing in every way — but there were challenges, disappointments and learning curves. That being said though — I am still feeling pretty grateful and blessed. And I know people say that ad nauseam, but honestly — even with all the bad crap that I had to face and deal with, I don't feel broken or overly pessimistic. So, I'm gonna take all that and chalk 2017 up to a decent year. (I've especially enjoyed the last two weeks of the year which I took as vacation. A REAL vacation. No blog work… away from my computer… and just re-charging.)
Some of the 2017 highlights that were on the positive? My new kitty cat! Yeah, even with the hell that is ringworm… I love her and she's added so much joy to my life already. Though my other cat, Veda… is not especially a fan (She's 9 years old and set in her ways… she's also been the only cat ruling the roost here for almost 2 years.) — they aren't sworn enemies either. They are tepid around each other — but there is no fur flying. I'm considering getting another kitten from the same no-kill shelter so that little Mia can have a playmate. Stay tuned on that one!
*Yes! She sleeps on my shoulders while I work at my computer. ADORABLE!
I have a new dermatologist and I love her. If you've read my updates over the years, you know I have struggled with acne ever since I went off birth control pills. It's been pure hell. My new derm is younger, hipper and full of new treatment plans that my former dermatologist never offered or even mentioned. I'd pay $75 to be told I need to go back on birth control or suck it up and take Accutane.
Finding out I am super deficient in zinc and vitamin D has made a world of difference. Though my face still isn't 100% clear, it's 75% better for sure just by adding these two supplements. (I am NOT a doctor and I was tested for deficiencies and that's why I take them.) Through a bit of trial and error, I am happy with Zinc for Acne from Puritan's Pride and Vitamin D3 with coconut oil from Sports Research. And though I tried spironolactone (prescription) once before for about 5 months (and it worked well!) — I didn't like the fact that I'd picked up 8 pounds of weight when I was taking it. However, I am considering taking it again at a lower dose to see if it completely clears me and the weight gain does NOT happen again. We'll see.
Interested in these supplements? You can get them on Amazon.
And in the same vein as healthy skin…
I appreciate learning more about and doing Whole30. If you're not familiar with Whole30… just do a Google search. It's way more than I could ever explain in this newsletter. But I listened to the “Whole30, It Starts with Food” audiobook via Audible (which I adore… and just finished listening to Ready Player One via Audible and loved it!) and then implemented their way of eating. Cutting out all sugar was WAY harder than I ever thought it would be — but enlightened me to the fact that I was absolutely addicted and functioning on a constant sugar high. Though I don't eat an absolute Whole30 diet now, I am VERY aware of what I eat, how it makes me feel and making much better choices because of it.
Interested in reading for yourself? Amazon has it in hardcover, Kindle and on Audible.
Obviously, I am super grateful for my awesome kids. They both help me in a million ways and I marvel at the people they have become at the young ages of 17 and 23. My health was good in 2017, except for when my back went out in October. Holy crap Batman, that was unexpected and hurt like heck. I will never again do three weeks of hardcore yard work and landscaping without pacing myself.
And last, but not least – of course, I am forever giddy to have YOU in my life. Every day that I sit here at my computer and stare at my website and thing…. meh… YOU keep me going and make me feel like what I do means something. Thank you! I've reached 35,000 Pinterest followers this year and the Facebook fans continue to grow in numbers too, reaching over 5,300 this year!
On top of all that, the newsletter subscriber number continues to grow, and I think 2018 will be the year I hit 20,000 subs!
And on that note, I thought it would be kind of fun to kick off the NEW YEAR, with the TOP TEN posts of 2017. These are the posts that YOU read most (along with all the job leads of course!). This list helps me see exactly what you loved reading and what I need to focus on more for 2018!
1. Direct Sales Directory
– Year after year, this remains the most visited area of the site. Folks looking for a home business to love and prosper with that allows them to be their own boss.
And there you have it! THE most read posts on my blog for 2017. If you personally didn't get around to reading these, well… here's your chance to discover them all in one tidy place!
I'm toying with the idea (obviously) – of going back to blog-based newsletters, instead of just links in an email. It allows me to keep track of what I've written better, share more and keep newsletters “live” longer. I won't make any promises that this will continue to be the format, but it's what I'm going with to kick off the new year. Chime in below in the comments…. love it? Hate it?
Right now, it's time for me to check on the corn beef and cabbage I have cooking in the slow cooker for dinner tonight. Yeah… we believe in cabbage for good luck on New Year's Day. How about you? Black-eyed peas? Greens? Some folks eat grapes on new year's day for good luck too!
Again, thank you so much for taking the time to include anything I create into your life. I know we are all busy and the internet is FILLED with information. It's a privilege to have you as a visitor. I wish you nothing but health, wealth and happiness in 2018 and beyond.
Until we chat again… take care.
