Best Food Delivery to Work For

What is the Best App for Food Delivery Drivers

Having food delivered used to be a novelty. These days, having food delivered is the norm. And you can have almost any of your favorite foods delivered. Which is awesome! But what about those folks out there delivering your warm chocolate chip cookies at 2am in the morning? Is it awesome for them?

Because my blog is about making money, and not eating delivered food (lol) — I wanted to dedicate a post to those considering doing food delivery as a side gig. Every single one of these food delivery app services offers flexibility for the delivery driver. Which is important for those needing something that they can do to earn while working around another job, kids or a class schedule.

Let's take a look at each one of these delivery app jobs and see what they have to offer the delivery person. Picking the best side hustle, means knowing all the facts. It will help us see which is the highest paying delivery app job too.

Grubhub

Well, this is one of the more popular food delivery apps. They've been around since 2004. In some forums, drivers for Grubhub most like the ability to schedule in blocks. And some drivers say they are busier with Grubhub than with Postmates or Doordash. I have a feeling it depends on your city.

You do get to keep 100% of your tips. Payment is made direct deposit. You can cash out instantly, but there is a small fee of .50 cents.

Age Requirement: 19 or older
Pay Range: The average pay for a driver ranges around $12 an hour for Grubhub.

Instacart

I've got personal experience with this one. (As a customer during the pandemic!) But, I have talked with several of the Instacart drivers that have come for delivery.  Most like it a lot. Many of them are shoppers too, not just delivery. I don't live in a huge city, around 100,000 — but most drivers said it was their full-time gig.

You have control over your hours and there are many, many stores that participate and partner with Instacart. With Instacart, you're probably going to want to do the shopper/delivery duo to make the most.

Age Requirement: 18 or older
Pay Range: Depending on whether you're just a shopper, just a driver, maybe both – the average is wide: $9 – $46 an hour for Instacart.
Available: Smartphone
Other Requirements:
1. Lift at least 30 pounds
2. Pass a background check
3. Have a checking or a saving account
4. A valid driver's license
5. Insulated bags (if you're a shopper too)

Postmates

Postmates has won a lot of potential delivery drivers over, simply because they offer a lot of options for those wanting to deliver. You can even deliver on foot if you like! It's all going to depend on the type of city you live in. Obviously, a smaller town isn't going to make sense for someone wanting to deliver on foot.

Postmates doesn't charge any fees and you're not required to work any number of set hours. You can cash out instantly at any time you want or wait for a weekly direct deposit. They really want you to feel like this is your show.

Postmates touts to be the largest, most reliable on demand delivery and pickup platform.

Age Requirement: 18 or Older
Pay Range: The average pay for a driver ranges from $15-$20 an hour for Postmates.
Available: iOS or Android
Other Requirements:
1. Motorcycle, car, bike, scooter or on foot.
2. Insurance if on car/motorcycle
3. Valid driver's license

Saucey

Saucey is focused on getting your alcoholic beverage order to you. They aim to get your order to you within 30 minutes. They are still growing, and in most major cities in the USA.

I love the idea of Saucey, but I don't like the thought of having to either deal with people already drinking or having to check IDs. That seems like a lot for someone just dropping stuff off.

Age Requirement: Obviously, you're gonna have to be 21 or Older since it's alcohol.
Pay Range: The average pay for a driver ranges from$10-$12 an hour for Saucey.
Available: Android or iOS
Other Requirements:
1. Newer car (2008 or newer)
2. Car insurance
3. A clean driving record

I have a few friends that have used Shipt (for Target orders) and they love it. Shipt is partnered with many grocery stores. But not just groceries, it's over 275 retailers. Retailers like Petco, Office Depot and Bed, Bath and Beyond. More recently they've partnered with CVS.

With so many retailers, the opportunity to make money delivering is a high one. You'll probably stay busy.

Pay Range: The average pay for a driver ranges from$15-$20 an hour for Shipt.
Available: Android or iOS
Other Requirements:
1. A valid driver's license and auto insurance.
