My name is Kelly Land, owner of the top work at home resource website,
MoneyMakingMommy.com. Founded in 1999, MoneyMakingMommy.com has become a
respected source for women looking for work at home or ways to supplement their
income. Featured in Woman’s World magazine three times, written about in the
Asheville Citizen Times newspaper and the Terre Haute Tribune Star newspaper –
the site now receives over 100,000 unique visitors per month and has over 20,000
dedicated subscribers to the weekly newsletter. I have proudly earned the
reputation of being a work at home guru.
When I initially created my site – I went very professional. Meaning, cold and
clinical. Over the last 8 years I’ve gone through FIVE web re-designs for
MoneyMakingMommy.com. After all of these re-designs I decided to combine what I
liked about each one. In the end, I decided….why not try colors I LIKE….and
putting myself and my experiences out there for people to relate to. That’s when
it clicked. By breathing myself into the website – it came to life.
After years of being on the radio, you’d think I would have realized that using
the same type of skills on the air could transcend to another non-face-to-face
medium. I could build rapport over the internet using those very same skills and
my own personality. Instead…initially, I took SUCH a calculated business
approach to design and content – that it took all the uniqueness and personal
qualities out of it.
The internet can be such a vast pool of darkness. It’s become a very scary place
in many ways. What will set a website apart from another? In my opinion (and
I’ve been on the internet since 1992) you’ve got to keep the HUMAN-aspect
tightly intertwined with what you write about, your images and how people are
able to contact you. Not only for your visitors is this important – but keeping
your own creativity alive as well.
