Are you looking for a little help with your latest search engine optimization game plan? Aren’t we all??
Search engine algorithms seem to change like the weather. One day you think you know how to approach and the next it’s dead wrong.
Nothing kills momentum for your sales and traffic like NO traffic to your website. Being in the top 10 for your niche keywords is certainly a lofty goal — but not out of the question.
I’ve owned 12 websites over the years. With each year I’ve learned more and more about marketing both offline and online. Of course that free, steady flow of traffic coming form the search engines has always been one of the best forms of marketing that I could ask for.
Taking the time to research the search engines, make a list of your niche keywords and design a professional site will all go hand in hand with building success.
I’ve used several software applications over the years to help me. I’ve also used free SEO tools online as well when I could find good ones.
What I recommend right now in the current search engine climate is to just really KNOW what your website is about. WHY would visitors come to your site? Are they engaged? Or do they just bounce off the page. You might start with Google Webmaster Tools and the analytics they offer. These are free tools that give you a lot of insight into what is happening on your site. Things like how often it’s being crawled, what’s the top page visitors are coming to. What is your bounce rate? How many pages do most visitors view when they are on your site. What is the top exit page? Just a huge amount of information to look over, study use for testing etc.

If that weren’t enough….
There are great websites out there with incredible SEO help waiting. Though SEOBook.com costs $300 a month – you get the help of some of the best SEO people out there. You can post questions, use the tools they offer and more.

SEOMoz is another one you might look into because again, lots of help, tools….great place to get started.

Some like RavenTools.com. They offer a free trial – so that’s nice that you can check it out and see if it’s something you want use.

Advanced Web Ranking is a helpful tool for letting you know where you rank for the keywords you’re aiming for. There is a fee – but you can plug in a lot of keywords.

Of course, nothing beats not spending a dime and just trying to reach the top ten on your own. There are endless articles online regarding SEO and tips in that area.

Try not to get too stressed right out of the gate. You’ll only be disappointed if you put tons of pressure on yourself to be #1 in the first week, month or 3 months. It takes time to have the spiders crawl your site. Keep adding new content and the spiders will come back often. It’s like food for them – and they love it!

But if software/online tools sounds like the path you’d like to tackle next, look over all that is out there. I only mention a few programs here — there are MANY more. Most all come with help tutorials.

Of course search engine optimization software and online tools are not the magic bullet. It’s just one tool. But it can also teach you a lot about the basics of SEO. You’ll start to see a pattern and gear your pages naturally toward that optimum criteria.

Nothing is 100%, but some things like software can make the path less bumpy – especially now that it’s become really competitive and algorithms have gotten complicated and quick with almost real time results.
