Helping you get hired for the work at home job of your choice is my goal. As I
said earlier - how you "present" yourself - even in the virtual world is
important. Maybe not so much when you're just goofing around - but when you're
applying for a job - YES - it's important.
I offer tips and suggestions for getting hired for a telecommuting position. Be
sure to check out the section on
Telecommuting Resumes 101 and
Telecommuting Cover Letters 101. There is helpful information to
get you started. Be honest on your resume and be sincere in your cover letter.
Employers really want to know why you think you're the best person for the job.
And when you think a job interview might be conducted totally via email or
online - then writing a nice cover letter that points out your strong points and
what you can bring to the table. What you write, how you write it....just might
be that little something that gives you the extra edge or allows you to stand
out in the employers mind.
Keeping your skills and resume updated is helpful. Take continuing education
classes in your field or widen your scope by introducing new skills to you
resume that compliment what you already do. Don't let the idea of having to go
"back" to school be an issue for you. Taking classes online these days for
everything from a GED to getting certifications or even an associates degree or
higher is possible. There are many online accredited colleges that offer online
training. If you're on the fence about furthering your education - it doesn't
hurt to get information about what
online classes are available - it's free
and there is no obligation. I had someone email me the other day to tell me they
had just signed up for
medical office assistant classes that
she can take right from her laptop at home.
A lot of interviews are done these days via Skype. Haven't heard of Skype? A lot
of the newer laptops come automatically with Skype and a webcam. Skype allows
people to talk via "face to face" through their computers. Even colleges are
interviewing potential students this way. Don't be surprised if you're not asked
if you have a webcam or
Skype capabilities. From what I can tell
- it's a growing trend. Even Oprah uses Skype on her show!
