Do not get discouraged while looking for a work at home job. Those that are
persistent always seem to get hired. Making your resume attractive and
professional are key when applying to these jobs. You'll need to approach
applying for an "internet" or telecommuting just like you would any type job.
Just because it may be a work at home type position, doesn't mean that you
shouldn't be professional.
If you're thinking of responding to an employment ad with some casual email,
with typos or incorrect grammar - then don't even bother. Your chances of
getting that job just went down the tube.
I know that if were personally going to hire someone for a virtual type position
(NO-- I am NOT hiring!) - if I were to get a casual email with misspellings and
basically unprofessional -- I would hit the delete button and not even send a
courtesy reply. Why should I? It appears as if the person spent a whole two
seconds responding?
Don't let your rush to get a work at home job make you come off in your response
as sloppy and desperate. Is that the impression you'd want to give in a face to
face interview? I would hope not.
Don't get into the mindset that because it's the "internet" that applying for a
job isn't serious. You can have a crazy MySpace page or Facebook page and
forward jokes and silly emails to your friends and family -- but when it
comes to wanting a paycheck - you might want to treat it with importance.
Another big no-no....
Don't apply for a job JUST because it's a work at home position. What I mean
is....make sure you're qualified for the position you're applying for. If a
company is looking for a web graphics designer and lists qualifications you
clearly don't meet - but the pay, benefits and flexibility appeal to you --
don't waste your time and energy or the employers. Read the job description!
Read the qualifications.
Also, be sure that your home office is equipped with everything you'll need to perform
the job you are applying for. Whether it's
faxing capabilities, having your own
800 number,
remote computer access,
high speed internet or a fairly new
computer - you'll want to be the candidate that can say..."Yes...yes, yes, yes!"
And if you're feeling maybe you'll never get your shot at a work at home job
because you don't meet the qualifications - that doesn't mean you can't take the
initiative, show some ambition and GET the training you need! Getting your
degree, training or certification is as close as your HOME computer! There are
so many
accredited online courses now -
definitely send away for the free information and see if you can ramp up that
resume with more skills and qualifications.
