Making Money on Twitter, Oh So Easily

Even those that don’t have a Twitter account are willing to sign up for one to see if they can make some money with it.  And although Twitter is still the most ridiculous waste of time to some – I feel it’s worthwhile. I joined Twitter in 2010….I admit, hesitantly. I thought it would go nowhere. Telling people what you’re doing in 140 characters? People were tweeting about pooping, popping pimples and eating ice cream! Who cares, right?? Well – as it turns out….a lot of people care.

Join Twitter and Let the Fun Begin

If you haven’t joined Twitter yet….go ahead and do that. You’re not going to be making money with Twitter unless you have have a Twitter account. It’s free and very simple to sign up. If you need instructions, you can read my page: Setting Up a Twitter Account

Once you’re signed up – the key to making money with Twitter is having followers. It’s your followers that make your Twitter account valuable. The more followers….the more money. It’s as simple as that. “But how do I get followers?” Well – if you already have a website, business or a blog – then you’re already in touch with people. You just need to let them know you’re a Tweeter now! Let them know that by following you – you’re gonna make it worth their while. Maybe tweet specials? Or coupons and discounts. Maybe tweet a giveaway each month and only followers are entered.

There are automated programs to help you build your following like TweetAdder. If you’ve got a huge following – or you really want to save time or build a list fast – something like this works – but understand the program before using it. It’s great to want to have followers and to want be making money on Twitter, but it’s not cool to do it just for profit.

Remember, Don’t Be an Annoying Tweeter

So you’re all signed up for Twitter, your working on building your follower list and you have a few hundred followers now. Very cool. Nice job. You’re tweeting and engaging your followers. You’ve build a rapport with them. Bravo. That’s the whole point of Twitter – to connect with like minds, fans….etc. Believe it or not – some people WANT to know what you’re having for lunch, what cookies you’re baking and what skin products you’re using for wrinkles. So what’s this got to do with making money on Twitter?? I know….you’re wondering.

So you can cash in on that connection that isn’t painful for you and not awful for your followers either. Because no one likes to be spammed. I don’t and you don’t – and guess what, your followers will hate you for it too. So let me preface everything by saying – don’t spam your followers.

Making Money on Twitter with MagPie

OK – we’ve established a few ground rules….you have followers, you’re engaging and you aren’t spamming. Awesome. Now lets start making money on Twitter! MagPie (now Sponsored Tweets) is my absolute favorite way to cash in by tweeting. This program is easy and free. Signing up takes a minute or two.

How Much Can I Make?

So how does it work?
If you go to the MagPie home page – you can find out just how much money you “might” make per month with your current Twitter account, the type of tweets you’ve been sending out and how many followers you have. It’s kinda fun. I did it before I signed up and was really blown away by how much I could make a month – you can see from the screenshot – even with my small group of followers of around 1,000 – I can make around $43 a month. Don’t get me started on $43 a month. If I had to….I could go to the grocery store with coupons and buy a weeks worth of groceries for me and my family for $43. I could. So if you’re gonna roll your eyes at $43 a month, which is $516 a year – go ahead, but I will be $43 a month richer! It all depends on your perspective. To me, $43 is a lot of money. My husband and I could go to the movies and have pizza with that much money! I could fill my gas tank…..

Once you’ve checked to see how much you can make, there will be a place for you to sign up for free on that page. Once signed up you will be asked to log into your Twitter account so that MagPie (now Sponsored Tweets) can access it. They are totally transparent and honest and say yes….we will know who is following you and who you follow and what you tweet – but in order for them to send ads on autopilot, they need to access your account. Doesn’t bother me….I’m not tweeting anything illegal or nasty.

Once you’re logged in – they have a few parameters for you to set. You’re in control. How many ads per your tweets do you want sent? One ad for every five tweets? Or ten tweets?? You can have one ad sent ever 200 tweets if you like….but not sure if you’d make anything unless you’re tweeting ever 5 minutes. ( I chose 1 ad per 5 tweets.)

Then you need to decide if you want the ad identifier on the front of your tweet or the back. You can choose between #spon or #paid. I chose #spon after the tweet.

Next you decide if you need to pre-approve ads or not. I chose yes, because honestly – I’m paranoid. LOL

That’s it. Start tweeting as usual and you’ll be making money on Twitter for real! Who knew?

Once you’ve hit $50 you can cash out. Maybe that means a check only every other month or something….but that’s ok – I’m just thrilled to be bringing in more money from my little “at home” online job!
