Home Business Ideas and What is New Out There

Home Business Ideas: Freshness is Part of My Research

I love the idea of a home business–don’t you? I like the camaraderie of sharing ideas and suggestions and slow biz blues with other reps in the same company.

I like the idea of sharing the home business idea with others, and building a team of fun-loving, confident people–that love what they do.

There are SO many wonderful companies out there that allow you to start your own home business. Sure–they almost always charge a start-up fee for your kit — but it’s a business! Are they supposed to hand you over $200 in merchandise and supplies just for the heck of it? I don’t see McDonald’s GIVING away franchises. So get over your….”I don’t feel like I should have to pay anything to work for someone” attitude. You’re not working for someone–you’re starting your OWN business! Good grief!

I’ve done a few home businesses…..all of the Direct Sales nature. Some suited me–some just …well–didn’t. When I was younger–I was eager to try anything. But now, especially since I know the home business market so well–and research it for a living–I am VERY picky. Extremely picky. I weigh the start-up cost with what I get in the kit. I look at the comp plan, the quotas, the product and the time commitment. I check the companies track record,

their fiscal record. I contact the home office and chat with a REAL person. I ask them any question my heart desires that I feel may be a hurdle or that I want to know more about. I talk to other reps that are currently doing the business. I look for the “freshness” of a company. I like “freshness”. I see a lot of companies out there that just seem so over-saturated (I know some feel this way about Avon – but I don’t). I like newer companies –but that’s just my preference. I like the hint of willy-nilly when you work with a newer company. I like that I was here long before Rep #1032257. The synergy and dynamics always make me feel younger…..daring….and a lot of times –it’s good to get in on the ground floor!

For the last year or so I’ve REALLY been looking for something in the home business arena. Nothing has sparked my interest very much. Nothing I felt warm and fussy about and eager to know more. I’ve received several emails from visitors and subscribers asking…”So Kelly–what’s new this year for home businesses?? What business has caught your attention?”

Well…hate to say it….but nothing is really bowling me over out there. But I keep looking!

The REAL key to success….. is finding something YOU love. It’s taken me awhile to learn that there is a difference between being eager to work at home and being truly excited about a company and it’s products and wanting to share it with others. So when and if you are looking–be sure to write down exactly what you want–your ideal and go from there. When you find something that excites you–run down the pros and cons. Do your homework.

In the end–the heart usually wins–but maybe it’s because the mind is satisfied with the knowledge it’s obtained. It reminds me of Cinderella and the glass slipper. Finding what fits.

I’ve done other businesses in the past. Lots of them. Southern Living at Home, Tastefully Simple, Taste of Home Entertaining, At Home America, Melaleuca (The Mom Team)……none of them ever really fit my style. I needed something that wasn’t really home party oriented. Not that I don’t think home parties are awesome – I attend many – it’s just not my cup of tea to have several home parties each week.

I have been an Avon Rep for years. I love selling Avon. I use their products – so it’s great getting a discount too!

Avon has been around for a long time. Has a wonderful reputations and I’ve always been happy with what they offer, my income earnings and being able to do the work from home.

That doesn’t mean that if a new company pops up tomorrow I won’t jump on it. I don’t think it’s good to count on just ONE way to bring in money when you work at home. So I stick with my tired and true companies and I keep an eye out for other ventures that might be another piece to my work at home “puzzle”.

So keep your eye out as well. Even if you have a home business you’re already doing and love….it doesn’t mean that you can’t add another stream of income to it!
