Keeping the Castle Clean When You Work from Home

Your home is your castle when you work from home. But there are days
when it may not feel that way. After all, it can be pretty hard for
anyone to feel like royalty when they're surrounded by piles of laundry
and stacks of dirty dishes.
When you're working from home with young children, or even if your kids
leave for school each day, the clutter seems to mount like never before.
Or maybe you just notice it more.
When you're surrounded by clutter, it's hard to concentrate, which
distracts you from making the money you need to and detracts from the
work at home lifestyle you envisioned.
Here are some tricks for keeping your home clean when you're busy
doing more important things.
Clean As You Go
This one seems obvious. You make a mess, you clean it up. It's what we
teach little kids - be sure to put your toys away before you take out
another one. Why is it so hard to do it ourselves? Start making the
effort today and you'll see an almost immediate improvement.
Assign Family Chores
Even toddlers can learn to do some regular chores to help keep your home
in order. They can help make their beds and put away their toys at the
end of each day. Preschoolers often love to help keep things tidy. They
can set the table, start dusting, and handle other simple chores. School
aged children and teenagers can help by taking out the garbage, making
meals, even doing their own laundry.
Hire Some Outside Help
If you're still feeling overwhelmed by the housework, it may be time to
bring in some outside help. You don't need to hire a professional
cleaning service. Maybe the teenager living across the street would like
to earn some extra cash by vacuuming for you once a week. Or a
stay-at-home mom or dad you know from school would like something to do
to bring in a few extra dollars.
If you can't afford to hire help right now, make that one of your first
goals - to make enough income from your work at home job to hire a
housekeeper. That might be just the motivation you need to finally meet
your first income goals.
Lower Your Expectations
Do you expect everything to be in pristine condition? Your expectations
may be too high to manage while you work at home. If your kids are small
and you are working hard at getting your business started, you may
simply be expecting too much of yourself and everyone around you.
Rethink what you're willing to accept
When you have to focus on your work and the clutter is really getting to
you, it may be time to pull up the drawbridge.., close your office
door... or turn your back for a little while. Put the chaos out of your
mind until you're able to deal with it again.
