Fancy Hands | Full Review

Recently, I ran across a new opportunity to make money online with Fancy Hands. You might have spotted their ads on Craigslist and other classifieds sites.  Fancy Hands offers virtual assistant positions and they have a pool of clients that are always looking for help.

When you work as a virtual assistant for Fancy Hands, you can expect to do the typical administrative work: phone calls, emails, appointment setting, and other basic tasks.  VA jobs are always a favorite around here, so I thought I would do a little more research on Fancy Hands. Here’s what I found out…

Is Fancy Hands a Scam?

Is it a scam? That is my immediate question when I see any company advertising work at home jobs, especially on Craigslist. There are way too many dishonest people out there and once you’ve been duped once, you are suspicious of them all!

Luckily, I didn’t find any major warning signs for Fancy Hands. The company seems to be brand new so there just isn’t a ton of information out there quite yet. From what I did see, Fancy Hands seems trustworthy and I definitely think they are worth a try.

I would give you a quick word of caution. When it comes to any company offering work at home jobs, approach carefully.  In the words of my grandmother, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.”  You can never predict which work at home companies will last for years and which ones will fold in a matter of months. If you diversify your income, you will be safe.

What Kind of Jobs Can I Do For Fancy Hands?

The basic premise of Fancy Hands is for virtual workers to handle all the little tasks that tie up a professional’s valuable time. From basic errands to quick administrative tasks, you will do a little bit of everything when you work for Fancy Hands.

Some tasks are as simple as doing research. Other tasks might include making dinner reservations or calling to make a doctor’s appointment. You might research accommodations for a client’s upcoming vacation or call and book a limo to pick the client up at the airport.  All tasks can be completed either by phone or using the Internet, so you can do 100% of Fancy Hands tasks from home.

Do I Need a Designated Phone Line?

Unlike many phone jobs, Fancy Hands does not require you to have a designated phone line for work. However, you are responsible for any long distance charges. You will have to have a phone line that can complete long distance calls and these are not reimbursed. Many employees use Skype or Google Talk to get around long distance charges. Of course, you can also choose to only accept web-based jobs. During the application process, you will have that option. You need to have an audio headset (with a microphone) to do this job (in some cases iPhone headphones work just fine).

How Much Money Can I Make With Fancy Hands?

So now it’s time for the big question. How much do virtual assistants make with Fancy Hands? It really just depends on the kind of jobs you do and how quickly you complete them. Fancy Hands claims that typical tasks pay $3-$7 for new workers and then increase.  Some ads on Craigslist say that beginner virtual assistants can make $50 per day. Glassdoor has their virtual assistant pay between $8 and $12 an hour.

How Do I Get Paid?

Payments go out every other week (on Tuesday) via Dwolla.

Earn More With Fancy Hands

One of the best aspects of Fancy Hands is the possibility of promotions. According to the job ads on Craigslist, Fancy Hands hires managers out of their pool of assistants.  If you do an amazing job as a personal assistant, then Fancy Hands might just decide to promote you into management, where you will supervise other assistants.

How to Apply With Fancy Hands

You can apply at FancyHands.com under “Careers”.  Keep in mind that job availability changes daily. When they have enough assistants to cover current job assignments, they will post a message for interested assistants to “Check Back Tomorrow!”  If you see this message, don’t give up. Keep checking the website and jump in when you see an opening.

To apply, you will need to register with a Gmail address.  They require Gmail to make things easier on an organizational level.  You are not granting them access to your account, so don’t worry about spam.

What People Are Saying About Fancy Hands

If you check out reviews online, Fancy Hands seems to be getting two thumbs up. It has received positive feedback from The New York Times, Time Magazine, Forbes, Lifehacker, and Mashable.  If these heavy hitters are any indication of the future for Fancy Hands, it is a great opportunity. However, when I checked Glassdoor, their rating was a mere 2 stars out of 5.

The Bottom Line

If you are looking for a work at home job that offers flexible hours, consistent work, and a fair payment structure, Fancy Hands might be right for you. While it is still a fairly new opportunity, it doesn’t seem to be a scam. It’s definitely worth giving it a shot! To apply at Fancy Hands, you can go here.

I am very interested in getting started on your work at the home assignment. Please send me all the information that is needed to get started.

  2. Is it possible to clear $1,000 per month working for this site? If so how many hours a week are needed to do so. It says in the site that you can work any time during a 24 hour period.

  3. I applied with Fancy Hands two weeks ago and my application is still “PENDING.” How long does the process take to get back to applicants to start working?

  4. There is work available and they do pay you. The tasks take more than 20 minutes and you don’t get paid much for each tasks. If you hard willing to put in a lot of work for a little money then you can earn enough as a part-time job. It’s great way to make extra money, just wish they paid more.

  5. I’m working for them now and yeah it’s slow and they don’t pay much but it’s worth it!

Thanks for sharing your experience. It helps everyone decide for themselves whether they want to move forward or not.

This place is not worth your time unless you consider making about 5 dollars a day. They hire way too many people and most of time there are no tasks. Other times there are 85 cent tasks which will take you 20-30 minutes to do. Other tasks pay 2.75 and take 30 minutes or more to do. Most people who work for them say the same thing.

  9. Terri,

I know there are so many scams out there. It’s gets very frustrating. On the bright side – there are also a lot of GREAT opps out there. I am starting a new work at home job in a week with Sitel. They offer home based customer service jobs. Kinda like a call center job – only you get to work at home. After 90 days I get 401K, paid vacations, a raise, a chance for bonuses and medical, dental, vision healthcare. It starts at $9 an hour.
Also – if you refer someone and they become full time – you get a $200 bonus! (So if you decide to apply – please use my name as your referral!)
I am so excited to find something because the economy is so rough right now.

Hello, my name is Terri. I have been searching for weeks now for a legitimate wed-based job and this is the first I have come across that looks promising. I’m a very skeptical person since i have run into so many scams and empty promises. I’m looking forward to my new possible job!
