Appen jobs at home, give you the opportunity to work at home part-time for $13.50 an hour or more!”

What I’ve Learned About Appen Jobs at Home

Working at home means constantly checking out all available opportunities to earn extra money. Even work at home opportunities that will only add $10 dollars to your funds each week help out. Unable to ignore any opportunity to earn a little extra cash, I checked out Appen.

What Exactly Will I Be Doing Working for Appen?

It didn’t take very long for me to realize that Appen wasn’t going to be like many of the other work at home jobs I’ve checked out in the past. If I started to work for them, I wouldn’t be making money writing page after page of website content or filling out paid surveys. I would be working as a linguistic and language tester, something I’d never done before.

Since the job seemed legit and the pay promised to be really good, I decided to apply

What I Learned About Training for Appen

Appen doesn’t take everybody who applies. In fact, I’m willing to bet that many of the people who want to work for the company never get an opportunity to. That’s because the testing process the company uses to screen potential freelancers is really intense. They have two different levels which have to be passed. Getting through each level is tough.

Even though I worked hard on the practice tests, I didn’t past my qualifying test, which seemed a great deal more complicated than I was prepared for. As I answered the questions, I couldn’t help thinking that many of the answers could have gone either way. Clearly, I choose wrong more often than I chose correctly.

The good news is that I do have a second chance to take the test which I plan to do. I’m already studying and preparing.

I was astounded at the amount work that went into the application process. If I manage to pass the next round, the amount of effort I’ve already sunk into this project will be worthwhile, but if I don’t I’m going to be irritated by the amount of time I’ve wasted.

My Final Thoughts on Appen Jobs at Home

Appen Butler Hill Jobs

If you have a solid understanding of linguistics and your language I do think you should check out this work at home opportunity. It’s legit and there’s a chance for you to earn some really good money. I plan on retaking my test as soon as possible. Hopefully, now that I’ve been through the process I’ll have a better chance of passing.

Update: I Got Hired By Appen!

I passed the test and I have been working for Appen for two months now. I really enjoy it. It's not an “exciting” job – but the pay is good ($13.50 an hour). I the work is only part-time (20 hours a week) – so it fits nicely with my other job, which is writing and working on my blogs. You do have to work at a certain pace. So you'll need to be fast. It's tracked and you do have to maintain a quality ratio – so it's not a slacker type job – you have to be alert, current on all rules and meet criteria.

It's been a real blessing for me. My paycheck is put in my bank account direct deposit the first of every month. The program managers are very nice and helpful and there is a great forum for all of us that work there to ask questions and help each other.

  1. my contract just ended with Appen & they don’t give any notice. I’d been working social media evaluation for 13 months & thought I had a few months to go so yesterday, I get an email telling me my contract expired and won’t be renewed. some notice, out of common courtesy, would’ve been nice. they are also not easy to get help from when you need it. I have mixed feedlings about them & this is not my first project with them.

I think contracts will end with each job you sign up with. I don’t think it means that they will never contact you again.

    It’s a good thing I don’t proofread for a living, right? LOL
I know there is room for improvement – thanks for sharing.

  4. If you are a writer why the typographical errors in this article? Don’t you proofread before publishing your articles or reviews? It is a good article but would have been stronger without the errors.

  5. That’s what I thought. Thanks very much for your response as well as the additional link. I will send this to her.

Yes – they clearly state they can end the assignment at any time if I remember right. It’s basically freelance, “as needed” work. Many people are let go on projects because they don’t meet criteria or quality matrix. But this is not a “job” — it’s contract work — so I feel bad for you friend for sure, but this isn’t the kind of work to bank on because you’re not an “employee”. Your friend would be better off to try and get something that offers actual employment. There are TONS of customer support jobs and some can start you right away. I have a recent post about this titled “If You Really Need a Job Right Now.”

  7. I really needed to ask about this one. I have a friend, who referred me to this company. After only one month’s worth of work, they told her they “had all the data they needed” from her and ended the contract. She is beside herself right now and barely making ends meet. I asked how much notice she was given, and she said they did not give her any notice at all. They only sent an email basically saying they had everything (data) they needed from her. Because it she was contracted and not ‘hired’ by the company they did not have to giver he any notice. She said she not even allowed to list them as anything on a resume. She is not allowed to list the company’s name at all. Please, if you could shed some light on this. I applied to them and am getting ready to take the qualification test. It just breaks my heart in two, to find out just yesterday that my friend no longer has a job and with no notice at all.

Like the opportunity to take the test(s) to see if I can qualify for a position with your company. Thanks and good day.

  9. @Angela
I hadn’t heard about that? I worked a six month project for them and never needed a headset.

  10. I got offered a project at Appen Butler Hill that requires me to use a headset with working microphone during the Qualification process. Did you need this or heard of it? If so, I’d like to know what it’s for exactly.

You’ll need to apply with Appen Butler Hill. I don’t do hiring for them.
