Finding Work at Home Jobs that Suit Your Schedule
Work at home jobs let you can work wherever you want, whenever you want. Leave the rigorous schedule of the office behind. Easily fit your new job into whatever hours you have left between the kids’ playgroups and shopping for the groceries.
But think about it – when have you ever gotten something done in between all that, without planning for it first? You’re going to need a schedule to balance work, family, and everything else you do when you work at home.
Jobs with hours from Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, may be what you’re used to. But when you work at home, you will usually have a lot of flexibility as to exactly when you work. For some work at home jobs, like answering calls, the hours of work will be set for you. But not always. And if you’re creating your own work a home job, you will definitely need to set your own schedule.
Choose Work at Home Jobs that Fit Your Routine
If you’re a night owl and want to work at night when the kids are asleep, don’t start a work at home job that needs you to make daytime phone calls. Planning to work during afternoon naptime, but your work at home job requires you to be at your computer all morning? Don’t tell yourself it will out work out in the end.
After a while, you’re going to resent the time apart from the kids. Your job will become a daily pain if you suddenly have to find regular childcare when you weren’t planning for that.
Before choosing from the many work at home jobs you could do, decide how many hours a week you can work. Then write down a schedule of what those hours will be. Can the job you’re considering be done in those hours? If you’re not sure, talk to other moms who are already doing that job from home.
For work at home jobs that allow you to keep flexible hours, you don’t need to follow that schedule to the second every day. But it will give you a guideline as to where your time is going to be spent, and how to make sure everything gets done.
Give yourself the best chance to succeed at working at home. Be realistic about when you can work and look for work at home jobs that fit.
